Sullivan was born on May 19th, 1987 in Nuneaton, England. He always loved sports as a young boy and started training to be a golfer when he joined High school. He has not shared any information about his parents and the schools he attended.

Career
Sullivan started his golf career playing as a junior golfer. His biggest win as an amateur came in 2011 Scottish Amateur Open Stroke play championship. He previously won the individual title in the Tailhade Cup in Argentina in 2010. He led his team Great Britain and Ireland to win the 2011 Waker Cup.
Sullivan turned professional in 2011 and in the same year played four events in the European Tour and later entered the 2011 qualifying school. He finished at the third place and earned his European Tour card. He also earned his European Tour for 2013 through a 2012 qualifying school. Sullivan finished 98th on the Race to Dubai in 2013 where he tied for the third. This was his best finish at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
His first European Tour win came in January 2015 at the South African Open. He also won the Joberg Open in March 2015 and later the Portugal Masters in October. Sullivan was the first player to record three wins on the European Tour in 2015. He finished at the 8th place in the final order of merit and was ranked 47th in the Official World Golf Ranking. His good performance in the 2015-2016 seasons led to his selection for the 2016 Ryder Cup.
He secured his first win after five years in August 2020 at the English Championship. This is a new event created after the European Tour events were reorganized as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
