Early Life
Burrell was born on September 21, 1969, in Cazenovia, New York. She went to Canisius College in Buffalo and graduated with a B.A. degree in English and Communication. In 1992, she got enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America where she graduated with an Associate in Occupational Studies in 1996. Burrell also studied at the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners (ICIF).
Career
After ICIF, she worked in Italy at La Bottega del ’30 restaurant for nine months. She then returned to the U.S. as sous chef at Felidia. She had a good connection with Lidia Bastianich. Lidia helped her to become the chef at Savoy. Lidia’s son Joseph Bastianich, and chef Mario Batali named Burrell the chef for Italian Wine Merchants.
After working there for some years, she later became the executive chef of Centro Vinoteca, an Italian restaurant in New York City. In 2010, Burrell opened her first restaurant in New York City. In 2017, she opened her new restaurant ‘Phil & Anne’s Good Time Lounge’ in Brooklyn but the restaurant is now closed.
Aside from being a professional chef, Burrell is also a television superstar. Her Food Network series ‘Secrets of a Restaurant Chef’ debuted on June 29, 2008. In 2009, she did another Food Network show called “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”. A year later, Burrell and Chef Beau MacMillan hosted a new show called “Worst Cook in America”
In 2011, Burrell became the fourth runner up in the competition “The Next Iron Chef”. In addition to her shows, she has also appeared on other food shows like ‘Guy Fieri Roadshow’, ‘Celebrity Silhouette’, and ‘Chef Wanted with Anne Burrell’.
