Early Life
Fauci was born on December 24, 1940, in New York City. His father Stephen A. Fauci used to own a pharmacy and worked there as a pharmacist. Meanwhile, his mother Eugenia A. Fauci and sister worked the register, and Fauci delivered prescriptions.
Anthony went to Regis High School in New York. After that, he went to the College of the Holy Cross and then received his M.D. from Cornell University in 1966. He completed his internship at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
Career
After completing his internship, Fauci joined the National Institutes of Health as a clinical associate in the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation. Six years later, he then became the head of the Clinical Physiology Section.
In 1984, Fauci became the director of NIAD, a position which he holds until 2020. Fauci whose career has been spanning for over a half a century has been at the front of US efforts to contend viral diseases like HIV, SARS, Swine Flu, Ebola, and MERS. He is also playing a significant role in eradicating the Coronavirus pandemic.
Fauci’s scientific work has contributed to the understanding of the human immune response.
