Family and Early Life
Smith was born on 18th August 1993 in Brisbane, Queensland Australia. He learned to play golf at a very young age being introduced by his father Des Smith. Des is a scratch-marker and club champion who is based at Wantima Golf club in Brisbane. He is in a relationship with Jordan Ontiveros who is also a golf player. He moved to the United States after graduating from high school in 2010.
Career
Smith had a successful amateur career before he turned professional in 2013. He had three major wins in his amateur career. They include the Australian Boys’ Amateur, Australian Amateur Stroke Play Victorian Junior Masters in 2011, the 2012 Australian Amateur Stroke play, and the Australian Amateur which he played in 2013.
As a professional, Smith played for the PGA Tour of Australia in 2013 and also joined the Asian Tour in 2014. On the PGA Tour of Australia, he tied for second at the 2015 Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship and also the 2016 Emirates Australian Open.
Smith finished in the top ten seven times and was placed 5th on the Order of Merit on the Asian Tour’s 2014 season. He tied at second place at the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters Tournament in 2014. His first PGA Tour event was the CIMB Classic. The event was co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour.
Smith took part in the 2016 Web.com finals and became the runner-up in the Nationwide Children Hospital Championship and this took him back to the PGA Tour for the 2017 season.
