Early Life
Cooper Hefner was born on September 4, 1991, in Los Angeles, California. Hefner grew up in a house adjacent to the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles. The home was built by his father Hugh after he and his second wife Kimberley separated. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree at Chapman University in Orange, California.
Cooper began working for Playboy Enterprises during college but eventually left after having disagreements with the CEO.
Career
In 2016, Cooper launched a media startup company called Hefner Operations & Productions. The company focused on media and social events for Millennials. That same year, Hugh Hefner’s health began to decline, causing him to step down from his post at Playboy. Cooper then took over the chief creative officer position.
By 2017, Cooper had brought nudity back to the magazine and Playboy saw a 39% earnings increase. In 2018, Hefner made Forbes’ list of “30 under 30.” He also worked as the chief of global partnerships for Playboy in 2019 where he basically focused on revenue and business management over content and media management.
In late 2019, Cooper decided to take a step back from Playboy from his senior role and instead focused on launching a new media brand, the Hefner Media Corporation and also a digital platform called HefPost. However, at the end of that year, he decided to halt those plans and join the Air Force. He graduated from basic training in early 2020.
Hefner is also a teacher at Chapman University, where he serves the boards of governors.
