Cris Collinsworth was born on January 27, 1959, in Dayton, Ohio, in the United States. Abraham Lincoln “Abe” Collinsworth and Donetta Browning Collinsworth were his parents. His parents were also teachers. Greg, his younger brother, is his only sibling. He attended Astronaut High School with his brother Greg, where their father was the principal.

Cris participated in a variety of sports while in high school. He was a vital part of the Astronaut War Eagles. Cris won the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A 100-yard sprint state title in 1976. In addition, he was named a high school All-American quarterback.

Collinsworth went on to attend the University of Florida, where he earned an athletic scholarship from coach Doug Dickey. After Florida’s squad failed to score during his rookie season in 1977, he was moved to wide receiver. Cris did an excellent job in his new position. Cris was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) pick for three years, 1978, 1979, and 1980.

Cris had a tremendous game for Florida during his time there. He caught 120 receptions for 1937 yards and 14 touchdowns in his career. Similarly, he returned 30 kickoffs for 726 yards, averaging 24.2 yards per return. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1981, where he majored in accounting.

Collinsworth’s professional career began when he was selected in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft. The Cincinnati Bengals selected him. Cris became the team’s top receiver in his debut season with the Bengals, setting a Bengals record with the most catches.

As a rookie, he had the most catches of any NFL rookie wide receiver with 67. In 1985, Cris was signed by the Tampa Bay Bandits. His contract, however, was terminated when he failed the physical test owing to a sprained ankle.

Cris subsequently returned to the Bengals and played with them until the conclusion of the 1988 season. In the last game of his career, Super Bowl XXIII, he caught three receptions for 40 yards. He appeared in 107 games for the NFL and has 417 catches for 36 touchdowns and 6698 yards.

Collinsworth took a fresh stride toward his broadcasting profession after retiring as an NFL player. On the commercial News/Talk radio station WLW, he had a sports radio program. In 1990, he began working for the NBC Network’s NFL coverage, and in 1996, he joined the NBC pregame program. Collinsworth was the color commentator for Super Bowl LII and the presenter of the news magazine TV program “Inside the Vault.”

Collinsworth covered events such as the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2010 Winter Olympics throughout the following several years. Throughout the 2000s, he supplied his voice as a color commentator for the “Madden” video game franchise. In 2017, he returned to cover the Super Bowl.
