Cris Collinsworth was born on January 27, 1959, in Dayton, Ohio, in the United States. Abraham Lincoln “Abe” Collinsworth and Donetta Browning Collinsworth were his parents. His parents were also teachers. Greg, his younger brother, is his only sibling. He attended Astronaut High School with his brother Greg, where their father was the principal.
Cris participated in a variety of sports while in high school. He was a vital part of the Astronaut War Eagles. Cris won the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A 100-yard sprint state title in 1976. In addition, he was named a high school All-American quarterback.
Collinsworth went on to attend the University of Florida, where he earned an athletic scholarship from coach Doug Dickey. After Florida’s squad failed to score during his rookie season in 1977, he was moved to wide receiver. Cris did an excellent job in his new position.
