Willett was born on October 3, 1987, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He was born as one of four brothers to Steve and Elisabeth Willett. His father Steve was a Church of England vicar while his mother was a math teacher.
Regarding his marriage life, he is married to Nicole Willett. The pair tied the knot in 2013. Their first son named Zachariah was born just days before his victory at the 2016 Masters. Their second child was born in 2018.
Career
In his amateur career, Willet won the English Amateur Championship in 2007 and competed in the 2007 Walker Cup. The next year, he became the number one ranked amateur in the world. Willett played his college golf at Jacksonville State University. During his time at the university, he was the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.
Willett turned pro in 2008 and got his European Tour card for the 2009 season coming through qualifying school. Within a year after becoming a pro, he moved into the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking.
His first victory on the European Tour came in 2012 at the BMW International Open. The same year, he also collected a second place at the Omega European Masters and 3rd place at the Maybank Malaysian Open.
2016 was his year as he won his first major championship at the Masters’ Tournament. With that win, he became the first British player to win the Masters for 20 years. He rose to 9th place in the Official World Golf ranking. Besides the win at Masters, he collected his fourth win on the European Tour at the Dubai Desert Classic and had 2nd place at the Italian Open.
