Doja Cat was born on 21st October 1995 in Malibu, California in the United States. She comes from an artistic background. Her Father Dumisani Dlamini is an actor, composer, and film producer while her mother is a painter. Her grandmother was an artist as well. Doja has mixed ethnicity, her father being a South African and her mother Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer is of Jewish and American ethnicity. Doja Cat is in a relationship with her longtime boyfriend Johnny Utah.

She was signed with RCA Records later in 2013 together with Kemosabe Records as a joined project but the deal was finalized in 2014. Towards the end of 2014, she released her first EP, Purr. Her song So High was featured in a TV Series Empire soundtrack on the third episode of the first season.
She became more popular and received attention from her fans after she started producing more music on SoundCloud and YouTube. Doja Cat was signed by OGG in 2015. She collaborated with various artists including Elliphant, Escobar and Pregnant Boy. She went on to releases her single Candy in September 2016.
