Pederson was born on January 31, 1968, in Bellingham, Washington to Teri and Gordon Pederson. He went to Ferndale High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He then played his college football from Northeast Louisiana University as a quarterback from 1987 to 1990.
On May 1, 1991, Pederson was signed as a rookie agent by the Miami Dolphins. He played for the Dolphins from 1992 to 1994 and again in 1995. After that, he played for teams like Green Bay Packers for three years, Philadelphia Eagles for one year, Cleveland Browns for one year, and three more years with Green Bay Packers on his second stint.
After retiring in 2005 as a player, Pederson became a head coach at Calvary Baptist Academy. He was the head coach at Calvary for four years. He led his team to the semi-finals and also to their first district title.
On January 9, 2009, Pederson became the offensive quality control coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. Two years later, he was promoted to the quarterbacks’ coach. On January 11, 2013, he served as offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs.
In 2016, Pederson returned back to Philadelphia Eagles but this time as a head coach. His second season with the Eagles was memorable as he led the Eagles to a 13-3 record, winning them the NFC East division championship. He also led the Eagles to the Super Bowl LII title with a win over the New England Patriots marking the first Super Bowl title in franchise history. With that win, Pederson became the fourth person to win a Super Bowl as both a player and head coach.
His third season with the Eagles wasn’t as successful as his team struggled with many injuries to their wide receivers. In 2019, the Eagles managed to finish with a record 9-7 and win their second NFC East division title in three years.
