Fran Drescher Net Worth & Career in The Nanny
Drescher’s career began in 1977, when she landed the role of Saturday Night Fever. She enjoys playing awkward scenes and has gained more attention after appearing in films such as Milos Forman’s Ragtime, Summer of Fear, and American Hot Wax. Her character, Milos Forman, was also featured in the film ‘Ragtime.’
Drescher met CBS president Jeff Sagansky on a transatlantic flight in 1991, and she persuaded him to hear her and her then-husband Peter Marc Jacobson pitch their idea for a television show. He agreed to meet when the parties returned to Los Angeles, but Drescher didn’t yet have an idea for a show. Fortunately, the show’s premise came to her before she returned to L.A. The show’s title character, Fran, is also played by Drescher. Fran, a Jewish fashionista, becomes a nanny for a wealthy British family living in New York City in the show.
Much of the show is based on Drescher’s childhood in Queens, and the characters are based on people she knew. It debuted on CBS in November 1993, but it struggled in its first season and would have been canceled if it hadn’t been for Sagansky’s help. Drescher also went on a lengthy promotional tour, flying around the country and appearing on local CBS-affiliated news stations. Their efforts were rewarded in the third season, when the show began to receive consistently high ratings and increased viewership. She received two Golden Globe nominations, two Primetime Emmy nominations, and an American Comedy Award nomination for her work on the show. The show aired for six seasons and ended in June 1999.
