Reich was born on December 4, 1961, in Freeport, New York. His father Frank Sr. was also a football player. He played for Penn State from 1953 to 1955 as a center and linebacker. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL draft but did not play in the NFL. Frank Reich Sr. was a teacher and football coach at Lebanon High School and retired in 1992.
He went to Cedar Crest High School where he played baseball, football, and basketball. Reich then played his college football at the University of Maryland for the Maryland Terrapins football team as a backup starter for three years.
Regarding his professional playing career, Reich was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the third round in the 1985 NFL Draft. He played for the Buffalo Bills till 1994 before moving to Carolina Panthers in 1995. In 1996, he signed for the New York Jets where he played for only seven games. A year later, he signed with the Detroit Lions.
Reich started his coaching career in 2008 as an offensive coaching staff assistant for the Indianapolis Colts. After the 2008 season, he was promoted to the quarterbacks’ coach but was dismissed in 2011 when the entire coaching staff was released after a dismal 2-14 season.
In 2012, Reich became the wide receivers coach for the Arizona Cardinals under head coach Ken Whisenhunt. He was then hired by the San Diego Chargers in 2013. A year later, he was given the role of offensive coordinator but was fired from this position after Chargers finished 31st in rushing and struggled on offense.
Reich then became the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles and would win Super Bowl LII. On February 11, 2018, he was hired by the Indianapolis Colts as the new head coach. His first game was against the Cincinnati Bengals where he lost. He then earned his first win in the second week against Washington Redskins. In his two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, Reich has a record of 17-15.
Regarding his personal life, Reich is married to Linda Reich. Together they have three daughters named Lia, Aviry, and Hannah Reich.
