In 2009, JB Mauney became a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). On the Built Ford Tough Series, he is one of only two bull riders to stay on Bushwacker for the entire 8 seconds (BFTS). Mauney is also one of only five riders to qualify on Asteroid, which he did on the BFTS in San Antonio, Texas in August 2012 with a score of 93.50. On November 5, 2016, he became the first bull rider in PBR history to earn $7 million in career earnings.

His riding career has been plagued by injuries over the years, but he has made a significant impact in the sport.
