Family and Early Life
Herman was born on November 5 1977 in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. His father, John Herman worked as a civil engineer for Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company and his mother Pam Herman was a teacher. His father died in 2018 from Alzheimer’s disease.
Herman has an older brother named Tom and an older sister named Julie. Regarding his personal life, he is married to Carolyn Herman and they are blessed with a son named Andrew Herman.
Herman played junior golf at St. Xavier High School where he graduated before joining the University of Cincinnati where he played college golf before turning professional in 2000.
Career
Herman turned professional after graduating from college. He was part of the mini-tour “Golden Bear Tour” where he played until 2004. Herman later played as an assistant pro before joining the Nationwide Tour. He played the PGA Tour qualifying tournament between 2008 and 2012. Herman won the Moonah Classic in Australia in 2010. He also played in the US Open in 2010 and finished 47th.
He played in the 2012 Web.com Tour and finished 25th qualifying for the 2013 PGA Tour Card. His career-best finish came in came in 2015 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. He was placed at the 74th position in the FedEx list and avoided the Web.com Tour for the first time.
Herman had his first PGA Tour victory at the Shell Houston Open in April 2016. This earned him an invitation to the Master’s Tournament, PGA Championships, and the Open Championship. He was also ranked 68th on the world ranking. He was an assistant professional at Trump National Golf Club and president Trump who owns the golf course encouraged him to continue playing golf professionally.
Herman missed out on most tournaments in 2018 due to a foot injury. He won the Barbasol Championship in 2019. He secured a PGA Tour card until the end of the 2020-2021 seasons. Herman also secured entry to the 2020 Players Championships, PGA Championship, and Sentry Tournament of Champions.
