Karen Gillan Early Life
Karen Sheila Gillan was born on November 28, 1987, in Inverness, Scotland, to Marie and Raymond Gillan. Her father is from Sunderland in North East England, so she is half-English. Despite her Catholic upbringing, she claims she was not baptized and does not follow any religion. She grew up in Inverness’ Kinmylies neighborhood and attended Kinmylies Primary School.
She moved to Edinburgh at the age of 16 to pursue an HNC in Acting and Performance at Telford College. When she was 18, she moved to London to study at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. A modeling agency scouted her while she was there. Prior to becoming an actress, she was a model, debuting at London Fashion Week in 2007.
