Family and Early Life

Kitayama was born on 14th January 1993 in Chico California in the United States. He currently resides in Henderson, Nevada. His parents are Clifford and Rumiko Kitayama. His mother is Japanese. He started playing golf at the age of five with his brother Daniel and a family friend.

Regarding his education, Kurt attended Chico High school. He had a great passion for basketball while growing up. Despite his height, he played golf for his high school team and was the senior co-captain and the starting point guard for the team. He later joined the University of Nevada-Las Vegas for his Bachelor’s degree between 2011 and 2015.

Kitayama started his career as a junior golfer at Chico High School. He performed well as an amateur and had two wins including the 2014 and 2015 Jackrabbit Invitational. Kurt turned professional in 2015 and started his career playing for Web.com Tour in 2016 and 2017. He was ranked 1174 in the world in 2017.

Kitayama started playing for the Asian Tour in 2018. His first professional win came at the Asian Development Tour at the 2018 PGM Darulaman Championship in Malaysia. He had other successful games on the Asian Tour including the New Zealand Open which he tied at the fourth, The Royal Cup, and the Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup Golf which had been co-sanctioned with Japan Golf Tour.

He earned his European Tour card by playing Qualifying school in November 2018 and tied at the third place. His first win at the European Tour happened at the Golf d’Hardelot. He won the Mauritius Open in December 2018 at the third start at the European Tour. He was named the fastest player to win twice on the European Tour after he won the 2019 Oman Open in 11 starts

Kitayama works with Pete Cowen as his swing coach. He left the Asian Tour for Europe after he was advised to do so by his friend and fellow American David Lipsky. He is quite superstitious and believes that eating candy the night before every round will bring him success in the game.
