Early Life
Johnson was born on May 8, 1990, in Groveton, Texas. He went to Groveton High School where he played football and track & field. In track & field, he earned a fourth-place finish in the shot-put event at the 2008 UIL 1A State Championships, with a throw of 15.21 m.
Career
Johnson decided to play college football for Kilgore College. He played for the Kilgore Rangers football team in quarterback and tight end position. After his freshman year, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma and played from 2009 to 2012. Initially, he played as a tight end and defensive end in 2010, and as a junior, he switched to offensive tackle.
In 2013, Lane Johnson was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $19.85 million contract which included a signing bonus of $12.81 million. His debut game came in a 33-27 victory of Washington Redskins. That season, he started in all 16 regular games and helped Eagles finish first in the NFC East. He was ranked 26th best right tackle by Pro Football Focus in 2013.
At the start of the 2014 season, Johnson tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug which led him to a suspension of the first four games of the season. After returning, he allowed only one sack in the remaining games of the season. Pro Football Focus named him to the 2014 PFF All-Pro Team.
