Magnus Walker Early Life
Magnus Walker developed an interest in Porsche cars and the Porsche legacy while growing up in Sheffield, England. When he was ten years old, his father took him to the 1977 Earl’s Court Motorshow, where he saw his first Porsche 911. He had no idea he’d end up with a sizable Porsche collection years later.
Following this life-altering experience, he wrote to Porsche, asking for a job. Magnus, sadly, dropped out of school in 1982 without a diploma. Going from here to there, he became heavily involved in the punk rock and metal scenes. He decided to uproot his life and move to America because he couldn’t quite figure out what he wanted to do with his life. In 1986, he got a job as a summer camp counselor in Detroit, earning enough money to move to Los Angeles later that year.

Magnus Walker Net Worth & Career
Walker stumbled into fashion shortly after arriving in LA. Taime Downe of the band Faster Pussycat spotted him re-sewing a pair of $10 pants to make them fit.
Walker sold Downe eight pairs of his personalized pants for $25 each and soon opened a kiosk on Venice Beach, where he offered customized clothing made from thrift store or flea market finds. As the market stall flourished, he founded Serious Clothing. He met Karen Caid, alias Hoochie, a designer he had met at trade exhibitions, shortly after launching it. Hoochie ditched her own clothing company and hooked up with Walker.
Together with Walker’s fabric selection skills, she made the brand a success. The clothes gained a following after opening a store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. To accommodate their company’s development, they bought a run-down manufacturing facility in Los Angeles’ Arts District. The facility was originally built to manufacture Serious clothes but soon became a popular film location for TV series, advertisements, and feature films. Among others, Bruce Willis, Victoria Beckham, Jay-Z, and Prince have filmed on his company’s grounds. After nearly 15 years of making clothes, Walker and his wife felt disconnected from the scene and closed their firm. Walker’s autobiography, Urban Outlaw: Dirt Don’t Slow You Down, came out on June 1.
Walker bought a 1974 Porsche 911 in 1992, fulfilling a lifelong desire. In 2002, he joined the Porsche Club of America. He began racing and collecting classic 911s. A former fashion designer, he defied the unwritten conventions of vintage automobile restoration to convert each of his cars into a work of art while maintaining their Porsche roots.
Walker’s sudden celebrity prompted Porsche to contact him 35 years after he wrote an application letter as a child. He also appeared in I Am Steve McQueen (2014), Motor City Outlaw (2016), and Jay Leno’s Garage (2017), all focusing on his career as a Porsche collector and customizer. 2015 saw him as one of the icons sought after by the player character and his gang in Need for Speed.
On June 25, 2021, Nike released a Nike SB Dunk High inspired by Walker’s most famous car, a 1971 Porsche 911 T called “277”. Both the Porsche itself (27/7 branding on the outer heel and insole, color blocking similar to the car’s design, and a “wear away” design revealing a gold finish under the white top layer of paint) and Magnus’ legacy (red and green flannel sock liner, a “Urban Outlaw” brand on the outer midfoot panel) are referenced in the sneaker.
