Goodwin was born on November 19, 1990, in Lubbock, Texas. He went to Rowlett High School in Texas where he played football and competed in track & field. During his time at the school, Goodwin finished first in the long jump at the 2008 Junior Championships in Poland and first in the 2009 United States Junior Championships.
Goodwin then played college football at the University of Texas at Austin. In his second season at Texas, he played 11 matches and recorded 31 receptions for 324 yards and one touchdown. In his 2011 season, he had 33 receptions for 421 yards and two touchdowns. Godwin in his final season, he recorded 26 receptions for 340 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. Goodwin also competed in the 2013 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Marquise Goodwin was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year contract with the Bills. In his first season, he recorded 29 receptions, 431 yards, and three touchdowns.
On March 9, 2017, Goodwin signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. He finished his first season with the 49ers recording 56 catches for 962 yards and two touchdowns. In 2018, he signed a three-year, $20.3 million contract extension with the 49ers which meant he will play with them through the 2021 season.
Goodwin finished the 2019 season with 12 receptions for 186 yards and a touchdown. He led his team to the Super Bowl LIV, but lost 31-20 to the Kansas City Chiefs. On April 25, 2020, Godwin was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. On July 28, 2020, he announced that he will withdraw from the 2020 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic and focus more on his family.
Regarding his personal life, he is married to Morgan Goodwin-Snow. They welcomed their daughter Maree on February 19, 2020.
