Fitzpatrick was born on September 1, 1994, in Sheffield, England to parents Russell Fitzpatrick and Susan Fitzpatrick. He went to Tapton School where he started playing golf. As an amateur, Fitzpatrick won the 2012 Boys Amateur Championship. A year later, he won the U.S. Amateur, which earned him invitations to compete at the 2014 Masters Tournament, U.S. Open, and Open Championship while he was still an amateur.
In 2013, he was ranked at the top of the World Amateur Golf Ranking. In September of that year, he played in the Walker Cup. Fitzpatrick went to Northwestern University to play college golf but he left after one semester to pursue a fill-time golfing career.
Fitzpatrick turned pro in 2014 after the U.S. Open. His professional debut came at 2014 Irish Open after which he competed in several competitions on the European Tour and Challenge Tour. In November 2014, he entered the European Tour Qualifying School where he finished in 11th place and got an invitation for the 2015 European Tour.
In July 2015, he finished second place at the Omega European Masters a shot behind Danny Willett. With that place, he won the prize of €300,000. Four months later, he got his first victory when he won the British Masters and received the prize of €671,550. With that win, his ranking climbed up to 59 in the Official Golf rankings. His rookie season ended with one win and nine top-10 placements.
In 2016, he competed at the Masters’ Tournament finishing tied for 7th place. In June 2016, he won the Nordea Masters and climbed to 32nd place in the official rankings. With that results, he qualified automatically for the 2016 Ryder Cup.
Fitzpatrick then won the DP World Tour Championship in November 2016 by one shot over Tyrrell Hatton. Since then, he has won other events including Omega European Masters in 2017 and 2018, and also DP World Tour Championship in 2020. That win resulted in him to climb to 16th position in official golf rankings.
