Fitzpatrick was born on September 1, 1994, in Sheffield, England to parents Russell Fitzpatrick and Susan Fitzpatrick. He went to Tapton School where he started playing golf. As an amateur, Fitzpatrick won the 2012 Boys Amateur Championship. A year later, he won the U.S. Amateur, which earned him invitations to compete at the 2014 Masters Tournament, U.S. Open, and Open Championship while he was still an amateur.
