Early Life and Family
Mike was born on May 13, 1978, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. His father Henry Bibby is a former NBA and UCLA player. He is also the nephew of former MLB player Jim Bibby. Bibby is married to Darcy Watkins and together they have three daughters, Janae, Nylah and Mia, and a son, Michael.
Bibby went to Shadow Mountain High School where he won Arizona state championship as a point guard. He then played his college basketball at the University of Arizona. As a freshman, he helped his team Wildcats to the NCAA championship in 1997. He was selected to the 97 All-Final Four Team and was also named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year.
His sophomore year was also quite impressive. He was named Pac-10 player of the year after averaging 17.2 ppg, 5.7 apg, and 3 rpg. He also earned First-Team All-America honors after his sophomore year.
Professional Career
In 1998, Bibby was selected by the Vancouver Grizzlies in the NBA Draft. In the first season, he averaged 13.2 points, 6.5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game. He had a better number in his next two seasons with the Grizzlies but was traded to Sacramento Kings in his fourth year at the NBA.
On his first season with Sacramento Kings, Bibby formed a formidable partnership with Chris Webber. During the 2002 Western Conference final between the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers, Bibby’s performance in game 5 was quite memorable. The Sacramento Kings awarded him a 7-year, $80.5 million contract.
