Henley was born on April 12, 1989, in Macon, Georgia to parents Chapin Henley and Sally Henley. He went to Stratford Academy where he started playing golf. He then played college golf for four years at the University of Georgia in Athens.
At college, he won the 2010 Haskins Award which is given for the most outstanding player in the college. He also played in two Nationwide Tour events in 2010: The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Invitational and the Stadion Athens Classic at UGA.
As an amateur, Henley won the Stadion Classic at UGA on the Nationwide Tour in 2011. He also represented the United States at the Walker Cup and Palmer Cup competition that year. Henley has won Palmer Cup in 2010 and 2011.
Henley’s professional debut came at the Nationwide Tour’s Soboba Golf Classic in September 2011. In 2012, he won the Chiquita Classic defeating Patrick Cantlay in a playoff. The same year, he won his second title of the year at the Winn Dixie Jacksonville Open.
In his debut PGA Tour, he won the Sony Open in Hawaii breaking the record by four shots. It was the second-lowest score for a 72-hole tournament in PGA Tour history. With that win, he got an invitation to the Masters and PGA Championship.
Henley’s second PGA Tour title came at the Honda Classic in 2013. He defeated Russell Knox, Rory McIlroy, and Ryan Palmer to win the cup. He climbed into the world’s top 50 and received qualification for the Masters.
In April 2017 Henley won his third tour event at the Shell Houston Open in Texas. With that win, he got the final spot in the 2017 Masters and also a spot guaranteed in the PGA Championship in August.
