Ryan Upchurch Early Life

Ryan Upchurch used to be fascinated by colors, shapes, and automobiles before he became interested in music. He developed a strong interest in cars and would frequently post car pictures on his social media account. Later in life, Ryan, along with his friend Shade Glover, created the YouTube channel Upchurch the Redneck and began uploading various comedy videos to the platform.

Upchurch’s more serious alter persona, hick-hop performer, began his music career as a vocalist, doing songs that were substantially warmer and more recognizable than his purposely boisterous rap compositions. Upchurch created himself as a comedic character, Upchurch the Redneck, based on stereotypes of Deep South young men, to amuse his friends and himself.

Back in 2014, Upchurch began making videos with his pals in which he acted the Upchurch character while also demonstrating his rapping abilities. After Upchurch began putting the videos online, awareness of his work spread, and in May 1015, he released an EP called Cheatham County. The EP peaked at number 29 on the country albums chart. Upchurch’s web profile was already dominated by his hick-hop comedy clips by February 2017. With the song “Where It All Went Down,” a current country number where he sang, he gave his fans a glimpse of another side of his God-given talent.
