Family and Early Life
Lewis was born on 5th January 1991 in Welwyn Garden City in England. His father named him after a golf professional Tom Watson. His parents introduced him to golf as a young boy and they continue to support him as he grows in the career. He is in a loving relationship with his girlfriend named Lara Cornell.
Lewis had a successful amateur career before he turned professional in 2011. He was the winner of the Boys Amateur Championship at Royal St. Georges in 2009. He later lost in a playoff at the New South Wales Open. He took part in the Australian Open and tied in 12th place.
In 2011 he won the tournament at the Old Course at St. Andrews at St Andrew’s Links Trophy and qualified for the 2011 Open Championship at Royal St. Georges through a qualifying school at Rye. He shot five-under-par 65. This became the lowest single-round score by an amateur in the history of the Open Championship.
He became the first amateur to lead the Open Championship since it was done by Michael Bonallack in 1968. He also became the first amateur to lead a major since Mike Reid in 1976
