Tzi Ma was born on June 10, 1962, in Hong Kong. He is the youngest kid of his parents. Ma’s family moved to the United States after a political disturbance in Hong Kong. He spent all his childhood in New York, where his parents started a new restaurant business.
Tzi became interested in acting after he performed in a school act on Annie Get Your Gun. In 1976, his passion for acting became stronger after he saw Makoto Iwamatsu’s performance in the musical play “Pacific Overtures”. Earlier, he has performed in several plays like “FOB”, “Yellow”, “Face”, “The Dance and the Railroad” and “Flower Drum Song”.
As he wanted to improve his acting skill, he joined Nassau Community College, where he learned acting and teaching movement. In the initial days of his acting career, he appeared as Monkey King in a Beijing opera “Monkey King in the Yellow Stone King”.
