Zalatoris was born on August 16, 1996, in San Francisco, California. He had an interest in golf from an early age. He won the U.S. Junior Amateur title when he was 18 years old. Zalatoris went to Wake Forest College where he was named ACC Player of the Year in 2017.
Will was also a member of the 2017 U.S. Walker team with Collin Morikawa and Cameron Champ. He left school before his senior year to become a professional player. As an amateur, Zalatoris has won the 2016 Trans-Mississippi Amateur, Pacific Coast Amateur, and 2017 General Hackler Championship.
He turned pro in 2018 but failed to make it past the first stage of Korn Ferry Tour Q School. He got a membership for the remainder of the season after a tie for third at the LECOM Health Challenge. After that, he finished the season 60th in points and earned full status for the 2020 season.
In July 2020, he got his first professional victory after he won the TPC Colorado Championship by one stroke. With that win, he moved to first place on the Korn Ferry Tour points list and managed to get qualify for the 2020 U.S. Open.
At the U.S. Open, he made a hole-in-one on the par-3 7th hole during the first round and finished the tie for sixth place, alongside Dustin Johnson. With that finish, his world ranking moved up in the OWGR. After U.S. Open, he competed at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship. He also secured special temporary member status after the 2020 Bermuda Championship.
